There are many types of burns- chemical, thermal electrical etc. it is characterised by permanent damage to the skin cells. Most of the burns from household injuries are not life-threatening, but some burns of a higher degree can be fatal without proper care.

There are three degrees of burns and the treatment of burns is dependent on them. At Skyn Stories, we carefully analyse the type of burn, the cause and treat it accordingly.

First-Degree Burns:

When a burn injury leaves only a reddish mark with a burning sensation but no blistering of the skin, it is called first-degree burns. These are not so hazardous and can be easily managed with simple first aid. Application of cold water (not ice) over the burn site along with a few analgesics (painkillers) is the preferred mode of treatment. Gels like aloe vera or lignocaine gel may also be applied. Antibiotic creams can be applied to prevent infection.

Second-Degree Burns:

In these cases, the burn is deep enough to cause a blister, which is very painful. The treatment for this degree of burns include creams and ointments like silver sulfadiazine and bacitracin. In more serious cases, the patient is given IV antibiotics and sometimes a tetanus shot. Most of these cases do not require any surgical treatment unless it is of a serious condition.

Third-Degree Burn:

These are the most severe form of burns. They go deep to all the layers and the patient might not even feel the pain as the nerve endings are damaged. In this case, the treatment has two main goals- to prevent infection and to prevent the severity of scarring. Regular dressings and antibiotics are given. Here at Skyn Stories, we not only take care of the safe healing but also ensure minimal scarring. Skin grafts and plastic reconstruction procedures are used to reconstruct the damaged skin.

What are Keloids?

Scar tissue can show sudden fibrous multiplication to form large fibroid smooth mass which is aesthetically displeasing. Although keloids are not harmful, they do affect the looks of the person and this may affect the patient’s self-confidence.Specialists treat the keloids with latest techniques which take utmost care to restore aesthetics. Treatment of keloids involves both non-invasive and invasive methods.

Non-invasive methods include corticosteroid injections and oils, which keep the tissues moist and soft. This reduces the inflammation around the scar tissue. Cold gel pads or pressure pads can be used as well.

Invasive methods include freeing the cells at very low temperatures to kill the skin cells. recent techniques like laser treatments are performed to reduce the intensity of the scar tissue. In severe cases, radiation therapy can also be done. This procedure shrinks the keloids. Initially, our specialists will analyse the scar and prescribe suitable non-invasive treatments. After gauging the response, the doctors may choose to prescribe invasive treatment options.
