Home Remedies for Unwanted Facial Hair

Home Remedies for Unwanted Facial Hair by Dr Meenu Sethi

Facial hair looks sexy on men, but when it comes to women, it can be pretty embarrassing and can affect the confidence as well. We all want to look perfect and well-groomed but sometimes facial hair gets in the way. The reason for the excess growth of facial hair may include medications, irregular menstrual cycle and changes in hormone levels in the body. Going to the salon every week is tiring, expensive and time-consuming. Here are some home remedies that you can use to get rid of unwanted facial hair.

• Sugar Wax

Take one cup sugar, 4 tablespoons of lemon juice and four tablespoons of water. Take all the ingredients in a pan and heat it on a medium flame. Boil it until it turns golden. Voila! Your wax is ready. Allow it to cool down. You must use this just like any other wax to get amazing results. Not only does it remove unwanted hair, but also brightens your face (because of the lemon content).

• Egg and Corn Flour

Take some egg white in a bowl (of one egg). Add one teaspoon corn flour and one tablespoon sugar in the bowl. Mix it well to make a smooth paste. Wash your face, apply the paste and let it sit until it becomes a face mask. Just pull the mask down to get rid of the unwanted facial hair.

• Gelatin

Take one tablespoon of unflavored gelatin, one and a half teaspoon of milk and mix both the ingredients well. Microwave the mixture for 10 seconds. Once it cools down, apply the mixture where ever you need to (you will have to be fast as gelatin sets quickly). Wait till the mixture dries completely and then just peel it off. You can add a few drops of lemon juice to suppress the smell of gelatin. Easy-peasy!

• Turmeric

For this procedure, you will need one teaspoon of turmeric powder and milk to form a thick paste. Apply this paste on your face. Let it dry completely. After the mixture dries, use a face towel (an old one as it might cause a stain) to scrub your skin and wash it off with water. Repeat this for a few months to see the difference. Turmeric also prevents skin infection due to its antibacterial properties.

• Potato and Lentil

Potato is a great home remedy to remove facial hair, especially when used in combination with honey and lemon juice. It will make the skin moisturized, smooth and bright. You will need one cup of yellow lentils, one potato, one tablespoon of honey, 4 tablespoons of lemon juice. First soak the lentils in water overnight. Once that is done, remove the excess water and grind the lentils to make a paste. Now extract the potato juice. Mix lentil paste, potato juice, honey and lemon juice in a bowl. Apply this mixture on your face and let it sit on your face for 15-20 minutes. Use your fingers and scrub your skin to remove hair.

• Chickpea Flour

Take half a cup chickpea flour, 1 teaspoon turmeric powder, and milk. Mix these ingredients to make a paste. Apply this on a cleansed face and leave it on your face for 10 minutes, gently scrub off the mask with your wet fingers.

• Honey and Lemon

Take one tablespoon of honey and mix it with one teaspoon lemon juice. Cleanse your face and apply the mixture on your face. Let it sit for about 30 minutes. Now take a washcloth, dip it in lukewarm water and scrub away the mixture. Repeat this process 2-3 times a week to get desired results.

• Alum and Rose water

Take 2 tablespoons of rose water and 1 teaspoon of alum powder. Stir the mixture till the alum powder gets completely dissolved in rose water. Now, soak a cotton ball in the mixture and apply it all over your face. Let it sit for about 20 minutes and then wash it off with some lukewarm water. Do this twice a month.

• Banana and Oatmeal

Take one ripe banana, mash it and add two tablespoons of oatmeal. Mix the two ingredients together. After cleansing, apply this paste and let it sit for about 15-20 minutes. Wash it off with lukewarm water. Do this twice a week. This will not only help you get rid of facial hair but will make your skin baby soft and bright.

• Sugar and Lime

Take a cup of water and add one tablespoon of white sugar to it. Wait until it dissolves completely. Now add about two tablespoons of lemon juice and stir. Take a cotton ball, dip it in the mixture and apply all over your face. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes before washing it off with lukewarm water.

These peel off masks and home remedies would temporarily help you get rid of unwanted facial hair but if you are looking for permanent results, then laser hair removal may be an option worth considering.
